Cheap Travels From Seattle
August 24th, 2011

Southwest Airlines offers unusually cheap travels from Seattle due to their intense rivalry with Alaska Airlines, which is based in the city. In looking at at fare data from 8 different cities, it was confirmed that Southwest was usually not the cheapest option.
They offered a different pricing schedule against Alaska Airlines in Seattle than they did in any other city, and the airline seemed to be very aggressive about targeting prices to undercut Alaskan prices. When Seattle was excluded from the data, analysis found that the Southwest fare was on average about 25% higher than legacy airlines to 40 different markets. When just looking at Seattle, though, Southwest offered cheaper fares than competitors on flights to the cities of Oakland, Denver, Los Angeles, Dallas and Chicago by an average of $140.
